I’m a member of the yahoo email group called Vandwellers. For the last couple of years, some members who live in the North Georgia area post on the group email, a Get-To-Gether(GTG) near Copperhill, TN. There is a campground in the Cherokee National Forest where I have met with the group on two previous occasions. I like it there because there is a concrete picnic table, a pit toilet, creek and lake. Also, it isn’t a long distance to town for supplies and we have cell service available in the campground. It was cold when I left, but I had hopes that the weather would get warmer. It did, but the first couple of days were cold, windy, cloudy and rainy. It was not a good time to be out in the weather, but Dick had installed tarp covers over the table and fire and he had wood, so – with his and David gathering wood and keeping a fire burning, we survived.
David decided to pan for gold in the creek one day. Dick contacted a local resident who had a friend that sold firewood. Dick requested a pickup load and they delivered it and helped unload it. The wood was very helpful, because the chilly weather was made more comfortable due to a fire.
After I was there a couple of days, Dancer – the owner of the Vandwellers group list arrived. I had seen some emails about him and heard where had hurt his leg and had surgery. I was glad to have the opportunity to meet him. I hated to leave as spring was beginning to bloom and the weather turned very nice. I hope to get back to meet with the group again in the future.

Looks so nice there, even if cold! You were pretty close to our future home, I envy you! So how did the panning for gold work out??

David showed me a ‘speck’ of gold that he found in the creek. You have GOT to come camping with us in the N Ga Mountains after you move. Even if you stay in a tent. It’s a great group and they are usually able to find a good location. Also, I intend to buy a Thermacell Insect Repelant to keep the bugs away during the summer. I’ve been camping in the mountains when it was 95 degrees F in Atlanta, and in the mountains it was 80 degrees F. It was bearable because it was under the deep forest canopy and there was a creek nearby to jump into if you got too hot!
